One concept that is considered essential in shaping a person’s financial condition is Vastu Shastra, a body of text that focuses on traditional Indian design—from layout and measurements, to ground preparation and space arrangement, and spatial geometry—and how it can bring prosperity by integrating architecture with nature.

ENV Media, a media company engaged in lead generation and performance marketing within the iGaming industry, recently published a comprehensive report that takes a look at “luck and abundance in Indian culture,” with a particular focus on traditions and rituals that might invite Lady Luck to the table. Although the rituals that bring luck may not have an immediate application in online casinos, especially for first-timers (although there’s also beginner’s luck to consider), these traditions reveal the influences and interests an average desi player has as they pursue their lucky streak.

In the case of Vastu Shastra, the research notes its huge popularity even in contemporary India, as seen around workplaces and households. According to ENV Media analysts, “Just as the Feng Shui, the Vastu Shastra is commonly followed to arrange, personal, family, or workspace, including external additions like small idols, lucky stones, and much else.”

To create a home that attracts wealth, experts said people need to watch the Vastu: the house entrance is the bearer of prosperity, so ensure that it is clean and beautifully kept. Likewise, take note of the North-West zone of the house as it is the most prosperous area that can help any household get maximum financial support.

The concept of a Vastu-perfect home goes beyond architecture—nature is also involved. In fact, having money-attracting plants are seen to “bring financial benefits and ‘positive vibes’ into a household or an office space, they are often combined with Vastu Shastra principles and other symbolic arrangements,” according to the ENV Media report.

Luck and abundance, and the desi player

Luck and abundance go hand in hand, especially in Indian culture. To this day, many Indians consider traditional and supernatural beliefs a path to success and fortune.

A survey on “Superstitions@Workplace” revealed that 62 per cent of employees in India have overall faith in personal belief or superstition, with more than half of the respondents (or 52 per cent) said they follow superstition at their workplace with Vastu Shastra and feng shui the most common practices followed.

Indian gamers also have their favourite superstitions that they religiously follow. Some players carry with them a talisman, a charm, some crystals, or jewellery when they enter the casino; even online gaming players observe some form of ritual or superstition to determine their luck as they play online roulette and other online games—be it for casual entertainment or real money gaming.

“The pursuit of luck, abundance, and prosperity has always been an essential part of one’s overall wellbeing,” the ENV Media report states. “The pursuit of happiness is intrinsic to all humans as it is unceasing. Indians are also attempting and exploring ideas and behaviours that might make them feel more fortunate and blessed.”
