Vaccination mela held in Mon, Longleng

Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): A Covid-19 vaccination mela was held in Mon district on Sunday in order to improve its coverage and to sensitise the crowd during the church services.

An update stated that the mela was held in all the blocks of Mon district on April 11 for persons who were 45 years and above, healthcare workers and frontline workers.

It said that the mela was held on Sunday for easy access as the vaccination sites were created near the church premises.

A sensitisation drive was held in all the churches of Mon town by doctors and staff of dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Deputy Commissioner of Mon Thavaseelan K; Dr. Aman, gynaecologist; Dr Shasinle Tep, DIO; Rahul Mali ADC; Dr. Mero WHO; Thrijungba Chasher;  Bangchem VACC; Chubasanen Ozukum EAC Mon; Imolemba, Yanithung N Ngullie SDO (C) Angjangyang; Imliwabang Aier EAC Longshen; Imtiakum Pongen SDPO Mon; Lithrila Sangtam SDO (C) Mon.

It added that 310 beneficiaries were vaccinated till 1 pm.

The District Health Society (DHS) Longleng launched a vaccine festival/mela along with the rest of the country at Longleng Town Baptist Church on April 11.

An update informed that the festival aimed to give maximum effort in improving vaccination coverage amongst the eligible population of age 45 or more, healthcare workers and frontline workers. The vaccine festival will continue until April 14.

During the church service, Dr.Obangjungla, CMO Longleng gave a short speech on the importance of why the festival is organised all over the country. She also thanked Longleng Town Baptist Church led by Rev. Beau for allowing the medical team to conduct a vaccine festival at the church premises. She encouraged everyone to avail the opportunity and get vaccinated. She also urged everyone to wear masks, to use hand sanitisers and always maintain social distance citing that the fight against the virus is still far from over, it stated.

Prior to the vaccination, the district media officer and district community mobiliser briefed all the wards at Longleng town on the vaccine festival. District media officer also distributed IEC materials during the vaccination drive. Dr Obangjungla, CMO Longleng, Dr. Shamjeih, MO, DH Longleng, DPM, BPM, DEOs, DCM, vaccinators, ASHA co-ordinators and district media officer led the team. 145 beneficiaries were vaccinated, it further informed.
