Dimapur, Sep. 29 (EMN): The United Naga Democratic Party (UNDP) has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office for Nagaland as the state has none unlike the other north-eastern states.
The party issued a press release to the media on Sunday informing about a number of resolutions that its leaders took during a recent meeting.
The UNDP’s office bearers and executive members met on Sep. 28 during which the resolutions were taken, the press release stated.

‘The NDPP has resolved to present a memorandum to the prime minister to install (sic) a CBI office in Nagaland in order to check the prevailing corruption and extortion which has reached the climax,’ the press release explained.

‘Except in Nagaland, all the Northeastern states have already set up CBI offices in their own states. Therefore, the UNDP has felt the immediate need for installation of CBI office in Nagaland state too to check and curb the prevailing corrupt system,’ the party stated.

The UNDP also suggested to ‘upgrade the parliament and state legislative seats.’
“The UNDP suggest that up gradation of parliament and state legislative seats has become necessary. We have seen in TV news and local newspapers about our prime minister’s assurance regarding Indo-Naga political issue. He had told that Indo-Naga political issue will be solved during his tenure,” the press release read.

“However, to our disappointment, till date this issue has neither been brought up in the Parliament for debate nor any concrete solution has come up except the extension of time for the solution in other words ‘delayed tactics.’”

Therefore, the UNDP has appealed to all the Naga political leaders, civil society organisations, and “national workers,” to “come together as one voice and appeal to the Indian government for separate Union territory of Nagas inhabited areas of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and up gradation of parliament seats and set up of bicameral system of govt. in Nagaland state too.”

The party also expressed appreciation for the nutrition missions the government is undertaking.
During the meeting, the UNDP members acknowledged the central government’s ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ which is giving special attention to women and child and their health and nutrition.

The party ‘expressed deep appreciation for introducing such innovative development policies for the poor, weaker section and needy in the country,’ the press release stated.
