Two villages in Nagaland resolve decades-old water dispute by building common reservoir tank

Decades-old dispute between Khezhakeno village and Leshemi village under Phek district, over water has been finally resolved after the two villages decided to share water from a common reservoir tank.

The common water reservoir tank located at Dzühari/Dzühako (Chahako) was inaugurated by Minister of Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu on Monday in the presence of Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, Phek Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Phek, and several dignitaries.

“This common water reservoir tank of Khezhakeno village and Leshemi village was constructed in the true spirit of unity and brotherhood for posterity,” read the plaque.

Upon inauguration, Kronu expressed happiness at the two villages reaching at a mutual understanding to solve decades’ old issue and ‘dedicated the common water reservoir tank for peace and prosperity’.

He said the CPO should spread this positive news to other villages for peaceful existence.

CPO President, Vezuhü Keyho said: “Every problem has its own solution but the best way is mutual understanding and love, which has been displayed by the two villages.”

He also lauded the two villages, Neiba Kronu, district administration, church leaders and past CPO officials for giving their best efforts in resolving the decades-old dispute.

Phek Deputy Commissioner, Razouvolie Dozo expressed optimism that the two villages will continue to uphold the brotherhood spirit in the future too for peace and progress. He called upon the villagers to maintain good relationships with immediate neighbours.

The DC went on to warn that the district administration would deal seriously if anybody causes any damage to the common water reservoir.

Khezhakeno Youth Organisation (KYO) president, Lhouvetsho Pfüno also appealed to both the villages to forgive each other and “let this day be a start towards the beginning of a new era of peaceful co-existence between the two villages”.

“May God grant the leaders of both the villages the wisdom to make the right decisions for a lasting, happy and bonding relationship,” he added.

Tenyimi Public Organisation (TPO) president, Timikha Koza said that it is easy to choose a friend but having a good neighbour is the best asset. Establishing a good neighbour is priceless and the most valuable thing, he added.

Phek SP, Vesupra Kezo also expressed happiness over the latest development, saying that peaceful environment will facilitate all round development.
