Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): Two persons were convicted and sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and fined INR 1,000 for breaking into Sheanghah Wamsa Baptist Church in Mon district and stealing cash amount of over INR 2 lakh.

Assistant public prosecutor, Mon, Yaomila Lotha, in an update, informed that the burglary occurred on July 1 during the late hours of the night. Both the convicts identified as Tahsei Konyak and Khamlong Konyak were later arrested on July 3 by the village guards and the stolen money recovered.

The court of the judicial magistrate, Mon, B Peter Resu, in his judgment, observed that cases of theft were quickly mushrooming due to drug addiction, among many other reasons and that the churches within the district, had unfortunately, become a soft target for thieves and other criminals looking for quick money, it stated.
