Tuensang, Aug. 9 (EMN):
Two persons have been arrested from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP) in connection with a case lodged at Noklak police station for allegedly duping a victim of more than INR 34 lakh.

The Noklak police have brought the two accused identified as Dheeraj Pandey, 22, from Bhit in Pratapgarh district of UP; and Rahul Pandey, 20, from Dariyapur Power House, also in Pratapgarh district, to Noklak with the help of the UP police.

It was informed that the accused duped the victim of more than INR 34 lakh by posing as Manager of State Bank of India.

A huge criminal nexus had been unearthed during the interrogation, it was informed.

The gang dupe victims by making calls or sending bulk messages posing as bank managers or treasury officers before tricking them to download software applications such as TeamViewer, AnyDesk etc., through which they take control of the victims’ phones.

The gang then add themselves to the victims’ accounts as third party or directly withdraw money, which is sent to different fake accounts in smaller amounts via apps like Google Pay, SahiPay, PayNearby, GoPayment, Spice Money etc.

The app that was used to dupe the victim in Noklak, Nagaland was PayNearby, it was informed.

It was also learnt that the members of the gang possess multiple fake accounts in payment apps as well as fake bank accounts, through which they transfer money. They mostly operate from UP, West Bengal and Jamtara in Jharkhand.

The two accused, who were arrested in connection with the case in Noklak, were produced before the Court in Tuensang on August 7 before being remanded to police custody for interrogation.

Investigation is on and police are said to be on a lookout to arrest the rest of the gang.
