Dimapur, April 16 (EMN): Public of Tuli town in Mokokchung district has decried the lack of seriousness on the part of the state government in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

Nullifying the tall claim of the chief minister and health minister that the state was ‘fully prepared’ to combat Covid-19, the Tuli Town Ward Union alleged that in real sense nothing was installed and instituted on the ground to effectively combat the pandemic.

Having learned that consignment of medical kits and equipment have been airlifted, the union chairman T Nukshi Yaden and secretary Aomeren have questioned as to where those medical kits and equipment are kept. On fund allocation from the central government for the poor and needy, the union has queried on its utilisation.

Acknowledging the magnitude of corruption in Nagaland, the union stated that public cannot afford to allow such practice to happen in this time of crisis. “No political intervention should be required for this Covid-19 designated allocated funds but strictly implement through administrative mechanism,” the union stated.

The union has also demanded deployment of more police force at Nagaland check post in Watiyongpang which falls under Tuli administration as there are many chances of illegal entry from across the border. It also claimed that no medical authorities have visited the CHC Tuli. It added that concentrating only at district headquarters would not help prevent the outbreak of Covid-19.

While appreciating all NGOs, churches, villages, colonies, individuals and different organisations for their support towards the government, it stated that the co-operation from everyone during the 21-day lockdown had made a big difference.

It, however, reminded that relief meant for Covid-19 was for those who do not have money to buy food and medical facilities and not for those who are in authority. It, therefore, urged the concerned authorities to utilise the fund judiciously in order to reach the needy people of the society.
