Dimapur, Jan.10 (EMN): The 3rd triennial session-cum-cultural fiesta of the Tuensang Village Students’ Union (TVSU) was held from January 7 to the 9th at Sejung ground in Tuensang village on the theme “Transcending passivity of knowledge.”

An update from the union stated that the joint secretary of Health and Family Welfare and special guest Yongchingkhumla, executive engineer of Water Resources, Er. Chingmak, proprietor of Trinity Academy Imlikumba, and assistant professor of Fazl Ali College Kushemyemjong spoke the theme and other topics.

It stated that the special guest, in her speech, instructed the students body to keep track of school activities in the village to ensure students learn to read and write in English.

“Every successful person has hard work, strength and dedication behind them,” she stated.

Special invitee, Er. Chingmak narrated his success story and the hard work he had to undergo to achieve where he is today. He challenged the students to follow his footsteps.

Seminars on topics such as sensitisation of women and child rights and building a generation of local entrepreneurs were conducted by Chulongla, centre administrator of Sakhi-one stop centre, Tuensang, and Dorothy Chang, president of TCCI.

Dr. Pritpal Kaur, SDPO of Tuensang; Kaimang Chang, president of Tuensang Village Citizen’s Union; and Nungsanglemba, president of Chang Khulei Setshang also encouraged the students to excel in lives.

A well known band from the village Aohim Sem and a solo artiste A Sentisangla presented numerous songs at the event. Kangshou khel cultural troupe also presented an old folk dance titled “The Pangan.”

One of the distinct feature of the event was the use of bamboo plates, cups, utensils and non-use of plastic promoting the plastic free environment.

On the evening session of the 2nd day, which was held on the theme “The principles of creative society,” awards were presented to individuals for their contributions on religion, education, administration, social service, entrepreneurship and music.

On the 3rd day, an essay writing and painting competitions were held for the students. The theme of the painting was “Chang couple in full traditional attire.” The essay writing was conducted for Classes VIII to X on the topic “Should selling of tobacco be banned?” and “Social media and its impact.” The essay writing competition for Classes  XI and XII was conducted on the topic “Swachh Bharat Mission” and “Protection of children from sexual offence (POCSO) Act, 2012.”
