Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): With a vision to protect the environment and maintain ecological balance and also to beautify the entire villages in Pughoboto sub-division, MLA Y Vikheho Swu, launched the tree plantation drive at the ADC office in Pughoboto town on April 20.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikheho stated that tree plantation is not a new concept but added that tree plantation drive had not existed much in the life of Nagas in the past because of the abundant forest. As human wants have become unlimited in this modern world, he stated that people undertake deforestation which is often not replaced by planting more trees, a DIPR report stated.
It mentioned that Vikheho started the tree plantation drive in the sub-division in 2014 with a vision to provide a stable economy and supply the surplus to other areas.
He urged the area people to streamline the plantation initiative and set a good example for others to emulate. He also expressed gratitude to the people for showing good response and bringing out a sketch map for the plantation drive by the villages.
Report stated that thousands of three varieties of tree saplings including Cherry, Pine, and Bukul were distributed to the public at the ADC office.
Later, the MLA along with ADC and government officials also visited the mini secretariat and planted tree saplings.
The programme witnessed the participation of village council representatives, teachers, churches, and other NGOs.
The ADC of Pughoboto, Tiameren Chang, who chaired the function, stated that the fruits of tree plantation would be reaped in the future. He added the programme would create awareness among the people.
