Kohima, Aug. 16 (EMN):
The Kohima district and planning and development board (DPDB) on Monday felicitated the 13th High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination topper 2021 amongst the government high schools from the district.

A programme was held at the DPDB Conference Hall wherein, Basanti Devi who secured 86.67% was felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Dr. Neikiesalie Kire exhorted the student to choose her career path wisely and to opt for the ‘less opted’.

He lamented that many students in the state despite pursuing higher education lacked objectivity and kept studying for the sake of studies along with friends and peers.

Further, he observed that many youths in the state only aim for government jobs despite the sector already being exhausted and despite the state having the highest number of government employees according to its ratio.

In this regard he exhorted students and youth to have clear vision with determination, dedication and devotion to excel.

Meanwhile, Basanti Devi in her short speech acknowledged her parents and teachers for the support and encouragement. She shared that her aspiration was to become a medical doctor. A speech was also delivered by her father.

The vice-principal of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Jotsoma, Megosevi Kuotsu expressed gratitude to the Kohima DPDB for felicitating students from government schools.

He also shared that Basant Devi from GHSS Jotsoma was an obedient, hard working and dedicated student and had to her credit in the past of receiving the district award in class 8 for being a topper among the government schools. Furthermore, he also highlighted the milestones the school had achieved thus far.

On the occasion Basanti Devi was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a cash award of INR 20,000.

The programme was chaired by additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Kohima, N Bhavani Sri and vote of thanks was proposed by District Education Officer (DEO) Kohima, Neizetuonuo.
