Tohanba advocates unity for peace

Kohima, April 8 (EMN): Parliamentary Secretary of Municipal Affairs, R Tohanba today emphasised on the need to strengthen unity and understanding within the respective tribes in order to achieve peace in the larger interest of the Naga society.

“As Nagas we have to start building up unity and understanding from home- the respective tribe- only then we will be able to have sustainable peace to progress ahead in oneness,” Tohanba said while addressing the 22nd general meeting of Yimchungrü Union Kohima (YUK) on the theme “Strength in unity” at Capital Convention Centre here.

He also called upon the Nagas to inculcate social and moral courtesy of respecting the elders and also uphold the principle of forgive and forget besides setting good examples for the younger generation to follow suit.

In order to strengthen the union, Parliamentary Secretary stressed that it is necessary for the leaders to understand the minds and character of their community members.

Block Development Officer (BDO) Chessore, S Lakiumong, exhorting the gathering, called upon the union leaders to be humble and patient to take forward the Union in particular and the tribe in general.

YUK president T Kejingkhum delivered the welcome address, while folk song was presented by Yimchungrü Women Organisation Kohima Unit and special number by Yimchungrü Students’ Union Kohima.

Reports for the tenure 2015-17 were presented by the general secretary T Kiutsuthong Phuvrü; finance secretary K Lato Zhimkiur; and statistical secretary T Lokhum.

Associate Pastor (Women) Yimchungrü Baptist Church Kohima pronounced the invocation, while the benediction was offered by church secretary Vongsuthong.

During the session, new team of office bearers for the 2017-19 was also elected to be headed by T Kejingkhum as president, A Ariba Huker as vice president, T Akhumba Zanger as general secretary, T Kiusangthong Phuvkiu as assistant general secretary, K Lato Zhimkiur as finance secretary, Johan Kiutsukiur as press and information secretary, H David Hutanger as statistical secretary, T Pusukhong as art and culture secretary, and A Akum Huker as treasurer.
