The word “TIBIM” is a Greek word that was used by a Greek commander Agothleus Deseychelles during wars to inspire, motivate and incite his soldiers.

TIBIM is a revolutionary word that’s used in different context to bring different meanings…

In modern context, the word traces its popularity to Nairobi University student leader Babu Owino who first spoke of it during a public political rally. However, during another political rally in Nakuru, Kenya, Siaya county senator James Orengo also surprised many when he termed “Tibim” as an acronym but not a word as Babu said.”TIBIM in english means Together In Building an Irresistible Movement,” he said. Many Kenyans have been wondering what is the real meaning of the word Tibim, or is it an acronym. At the same time, the word has become so huge that artists are even coming up with songs using it in their poetic lines, mark you it’s not only political songs but gospel music too.

Forget all the political theatrics staged to woo voters, what we do/should learn of/from the word is that, it is definitely one bold word which we, the Nagas, need to adopt in our lexicon/diction (whether as an acronym or as a word) in order to start a social movement/uprising against all the evils plaguing our society.

Over 60 years of Naga Political Struggle to claim its birthright of independence and sovereignty has only led to a piece-meal of Framework Agreement- the content which is still shrouded in mystery…

The questions that spring up out of concern are: Ain’t it high time for the Nagas to form a cohesive force, guided (only) by the dreams, vision and ambitions of our forebears who sacrificed their very lives that we may live as an independent nation? Ain’t the time crucial for the Nagas to stop being so lax-ignorant and wax strong against the forces (read as fragmented UG factions) espousing Naga’s Cause with their dim-witted narrow vision?

Ain’t the time ripe for every naga-by-blood to speak out against any agreement that’d be detrimental to our future…and offsprings?

Ain’t this the right time to unite as one tribal entity and start a mass movement?

Do we, like cowards, wait for ‘others’ to decide our future and cry foul when/after “they” have finalized an agreemeet/treaty with India? Isn’t this the generation where we ought to “Tibimize” through every possible means and avenues for the greater good of ALL? Ain’t you and I responsible, in some ways or other, for the political mess we find ourselves in??

Leaving aside the question for every Naga to ponder and decide for themselves, let me conclude by doing justice to the “word of the day” by disclosing the other meanings of “TIBIM”:

Religiously, the word is at the tail end of a prayer, immediately after “Amen”, to scare away notorious Satan.

Romantically, the word is used by two love birds while they are “tibimizing” each other so as to add flavour during the whole escapade.

Finally, let’s “tibimize” the entire populace of Nagaland and show our Govt and the NPGs that, we’ve had enough of Dialogues; that, unless united as one cohesive Unit, India will continue to keep playing with our Birthright of living as a free people in a free nation; that, division amongst the Nagas only serve India to the great shame of our pioneers; that, the Need of the hour is a social mass uprising or a single United NPG that has the mandate of all the Nagas.

The time is here for every Naga to come forward and proclaim “TIBIM!” (Together in Building An Irresistible Movement) for the sake of “NAGALIM” and her CHILDREN.
