A joint council comprising Tikhir Women Association, Tikhir Tribal Union Dimapur and Tikhir Students Union Dimapur have urged DGP Nagaland to take prompt serious action against all accused in the abduction and gang rape of 15-year-old girl in Dimapur on January 12, 2014.
They alleged that Benathung Kikon, 20, son of Ekonthung Kikon of Yukham village, Yanthungo Odyuo, 24, son of Wonimo of Yukhan village and Wobenthung Ngullie, 27, son of late Lampvuo of Nirro village were involved the case.
The joint council, in a representation to the DGP, also demanded stern action against the personnel of Women Cell Police Dimapur who harassed and beat up the victim when she along with her family went to the Women Cell on January 13 to file an FIR. The three Tikhir bodies said the women police personnel not only refused the plea of the victim’s family to conduct medical examination of her but also coerced them to withdraw the FIR.
They said Rose Yanthan, inspector, I/c Women PS, Mhabeni, CIBSI and Arenla, constable, were involved in the harassment and beating of the victim.
The FIR was subsequently lodged on January 14 and medical examination of the victim done thereafter, they added.
The three Tikhir bodies lamented that though several memorandums were submitted to the DC and SP Dimapur the progress in the case has not been satisfactory.
They warned that the joint council will initiate further necessary action in case of ‘unsatisfactory action’ into the demands and for which the State government will be held solely responsible.
