Three Naga students awarded ‘Indus Towers Scholarship’
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): Three students with disability from Nagaland were felicitated with ‘Indus Towers Scholarship Programme 2020-21’ during a programme held at Hotel Japfu in Kohima on February 8.
The award ceremony and induction programme was organised by Shishu Sarothi in association with the office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, an update from the company stated. It stated that the “Indus Towers Scholarship Program” is one of the key CSR initiatives of Indus Towers Limited, the erstwhile Bharti Infratel Ltd. The three Naga students were among the total 120 students selected from across the Northeast region.
It added that an induction session was also conducted for the scholars to orient them about the methodology of claiming and mode of scholarship disbursement.
State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and chief guest of the event, Diethono Nakhro, felicitated the scholars by presenting certificates of scholarship. She also encouraged the student scholars with her inspiring speech and exhorted them to always believe in themselves and their own abilities.
It mentioned that Indus Towers Scholarship Programme, implemented by Shishu Sarothi, was launched in 2016 with the objective of encouraging and supporting students with disability and has since supported 196 students from across the Northeast region pursuing higher education during the first phase of the programme.
In the second phase which commenced in April 2020, the programme would support 600 students over a period of five years (120 students each year). The selected students would be provided support towards their educational fees till the completion of their course, while a few are also being granted additional assistance towards study materials, assistive devices, hostel, and conveyance.
