Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP) and All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) on Monday urged the government of Nagaland to hold the ULB election at the earliest.

The councils also added that the elections should be held with due rectification and amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act wherever it infringes article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution.

This was resolved during a joint meeting of three municipal councils at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur.

The house also resolved to depute a ‘senior and well experienced lawyer’ to study the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 on behalf of the three municipal councils and to represent the councils thereof.

When asked about the 33% reservation for women, President of AKMWP, Thejao Sekhose said that they were neither for nor against women reservation.

However, they were against the aspects that infringed Article 371 (A) and one of which is the tax on lands and buildings of Municipal Taxation Chapter II of Part IV,’ which was supposed to be deleted according to earlier amendments but instead only a few parts of the chapter has been omitted, rather than the entire chapter’.

At the meeting, a welcome address was delivered by President of Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Tsenthungo Nyamo.
