Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): A total of 16 teams will be taking part in the forthcoming Morung Debate which has been scheduled to begin with two-day preliminary rounds on August 16 and the 17th.

The organisers issued on Tuesday updates to the media informing about the programme.

Comprising students from different educational institutions in Dimapur and Kohima, the team was given an orientation on August 6 at the Don Bosco Institute of Development and Leadership in Dimapur. 15 teams out of 16, turned up for the workshop, the updates stated.

Imchala Ozukum and Arien Jamir, who are part of the organising team, discussed and explained the format and guidelines of the debate to the participating teams.

After the preliminaries, the quarters will be held on August 24 while Semi-finals is on August 31. The debate will conclude with a grand finale on September 7.

The Morung Debate is an initiative of Dimapur-based English newspaper The Morung Express. It has the objective of creating a public debate platform for young people of the age group 18-25 years.

‘It is designed as a form of expression to examine socio-political, economic, cultural and religious issues which are prevalent in today’s context,’ the updates stated.

‘The participants can be part of developing a critical consciousness that informs the social discourse and challenges the status quo through delving deeply and exploring common solutions,’ the press release stated.
