Team of Manipur MLAs visit villages to take stock of situation

IMPHAL — A team of the Manipur Legislative Assembly (MLA) members visited villages located in the peripheral areas and foothills of Manipur on May 12 and spoke with the villagers, according to a press release.

During the interactions, the villagers highlighted their grievances and concerns before the team, which included mostly security, supply of essential commodities among many other things, the release said.

The team visited Leimaram Chidu Waterfall, Saiton, Nganukon, Phoubakchao among others and assured the government’s effort to provide security and ensure protection of the people especially those in the peripheral areas.

The team comprised MLAs RK Imo (Sagolband), Kongkham Robindro Singh(Mayang Imphal), Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh(Patsoi), Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh(Lamlai), Tongbram Robindro Singh(Thanga),S Premchandra Singh(Kumbi), Irengbam Nalini Devi(Oinam).

After taking stock of the situation, the team also provided help and assistance to the villagers.

Meanwhile, the district administration of Imphal East appealed to the people not to venture out from their respective houses during the curfew relaxation hours to avoid any untoward incident.

On Saturday, the curfew was relaxed for seven hours both in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. During the curfew relaxation hours, people came out to buy essentials.

On the other hand the Churachandpur district administration has continued to put efforts to facilitate normal life in the district. Apart from reaching out to the civil society organisations constantly, the district administration is closely working with the state authority to ensure uninterrupted supply of basic needs to the public. It also extended assistance to relief camps run by philanthropic organisations, an update said.

Close security coordination has been maintained among all forces present in the district and routine flag marches have been taken out by the security forces.

The district administration also appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and refrain from spreading misinformation and relying on them that may cause breach of peace. It also urged all to desist from activities that can cause disturbances.

According to reports, about 130 people stranded at different relief camps in Imphal were received at Churachandpur while about 10 people were given safe passage towards Imphal.
