DIMAPUR — TATA AIG General Insurance Company Limited, in collaboration with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and NGO Avanti Fellows as implementation partner, jointly inaugurated the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for competitive entrance exams (JEE/NEET) coaching and a foundation programme in Mathematics at Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kohima on July 28.
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) education initiative by TATA AIG aims to provide two-year free coaching during grades 11 and 12 for engineering and medical entrance exams to select 40 female students per year from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools across 8 northeastern states of India and admit to India’s premier engineering and medical colleges.
Additionally, the Mathematics Foundation Programme to be deployed in online mode would strengthen fundamental maths concepts for JNV students across Nagaland from grades 6 to 10.
The inaugural event was attended by TVS Prakasa Rao, assistant commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Shillong Regional Office, as the chief guest, and Devang Pandya, deputy vice president and lead of CSR and Ethics at TATA AIG, as the guest of honour.
Report also stated that Helievi O Solo, chairman of Kohima village council; Kelhousetuo Rutsa, chairman of P Khel Kohima village; Sanjiv Joshi, commandant of Border Security Force (BSF) along with other guests from Kohima and principals of JNV across Nagaland joined the event.
During the programme, three JNV Kohima students shared their inspiring stories of overcoming social and financial obstacles to continue their education.
It stated that the launch of the new CoE in Kohima aims to provide similar opportunities to other students facing similar challenges, empowering them to pursue their dreams, bring meaningful change to their communities and lead the way for others to become doctors and engineers.
It mentioned that over the past four years, TATA AIG’s CSR support through scholarships and the establishment of a CoE at JNV Kokrajhar, Assam, has directly benefited over 100 students from underprivileged backgrounds.
Aligned to TATA Affirmative Action Program (TAAP), which a focus on serving Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), TATA AIG along with NGO Avanti Fellows, runs one of the largest scholarships projects for promoting excellence in girl child education in the northeast and has provided scholarships to 171 scholars from the northeast region for pursuing under-graduation studies in STEM in leading colleges across the country including IITs, NITs, government engineering colleges, AIIMS and government medical colleges.
