Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has sought the intervention of engineer-in-chief, PWD (NH) in regards to what it stated was poor workmanship in road repairs project on National Highway 702A.

A letter from the union of the engineer on Thursday stated that work order for “Improvement of Riding Quality on NH-702A in Nagaland from km 40.00 to km 53.00″ was awarded to M/s Multi Builders on May 23, 2017, for an amount of INR 5,36,74,139.93—the work was completed only a year ago.

“However, what has come as utter shock and surprise for commuters is the poor workmanship during the whole construction period. In fact, the present road condition has gone bad to worse; that public safety is at high risk as verified by SKK officials on spot,” it stated, and appealed to the official to ensure quality work along the stretch as per the prescribed specification.

Also, the SKK informed that its officials had inspected ongoing road works under PMGSY Phase IX Batch I (2017-18): Satakha to Momi (4.2 km); Satoi to Ikiye to Itovi (11.60 km); Achikuhu to Yevishe via Yeshito (12 km); Yeshito to Kikhevi via Khatara (18 km); Satoi to Tsuruhu (5.20 km); and Tokiye to Thokihimi (12 km).

In this regard, the union has appealed to all the contractors and inspection officers of the department to ensure out quality works as per specifications. It warned that for any poor quality works, “stringent actions” would be initiated to blacklist the firm concerned.
