Sumi celebrates Ahuna-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival

Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Ahuna-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival kick-started at Zunheboto local ground on November 12 with the former president of Sumi Hoho, Dr. Hokishe Yeputhomi, as ‘Ahuna Papu’.

A three-day festival, which is being organised by Sumi Hoho in collaboration with the district administration, would be graced by the deputy chief minister, Yanthungo Patton, as the special guest and other colleagues including the advisor of Food and Civil Supplies, LMCP and Taxes, Pukhayi Sümi; advisor of Tourism, Art and Culture, H Khehovi Yeputhomi; and MLA Picto Shohe; as the guests of honour, stated a DIPR report.

Speaking on the occasion, Hokishe Yeputhomi, has stressed on the significance of the festival and insisted that the importance of tradition and culture be taught the younger generation. He has appreciated the cultural troupes especially the students of Bloomfield School and the proprietor for encouraging traditional activities in its institution.

The first day of the festival was marked by competitions on various indigenous games.

Report stated that the second day of the festival would be held at Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto on the theme “Sumi unity prayer programme.” The festival would culminate on November 14 with the main Ahuna celebration followed by extravaganza night featuring various artistes from Nagaland with the advisor of School Education and SCERT, K Tokugha Sukhalu, as the special guest.

Ahuna festival was also celebrated at Niuland town public ground on Saturday with Jacob Zhimomi, Minister of PHED. The celebration was organised by Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum (NACF).

Speaking at the programme, Zhimomi reminded the people to conserve culture and tradition, which were passed down by their forefathers. He also shared on the importance of using mother tongue, which is their identity. Besides, he has underlined the need to support one another and coordinate for the uplift of the community in particular and society in general.

With Niuland and Chümoukedima being upgraded to full-fledged districts, he assured that development would automatically take place. In this regard, he has sought patience from the public.

During the programme, Sumi war dances were performed by P Vizheto Ghami and Pihekhu Ghami, while Imuno pi sujo sujo was presented by Hovukhu Ghami, Lejole by senior citizen of Niuland town, Thihele bu Hovishe Ghami nad Thighale by Nikhekhu Ghami. Ahuna song was presented by Vivi Achumi and a song was presented by Kino Chophy.
