Pfutsero, Jan. 22 (EMN):
The minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu said that the present generation is in the world of possibilities within the context of ‘global village.’ He was addressing the inaugural session of the 71st general session of the Chakhesang Students’ Union on January 22 at Pfutseromi village in Phek district.

Kronu told the gathering that everything is ‘accessible’ in the ‘global village.’ He told the students to be disciplined, punctual, and hardworking and to strive for excellence in academics.

The minister emphasised that academic life is the most important part of a person’s life and said it determines a person’s future either to lead a prosperous life or a life of failure.

He exhorted the students to be disciplined in life and to respect their parents. Value the hard-earned money of their parents, the students were told.

Kronu said learning is continues process while sharing his life experience and told the students to be consistent in their studies.

The minister told the students that in past many people could not continue their studies because of the insurgency problem in the state, and because of the political unrest. Yet, he said, today the students are ‘in ease.’ He urged them to take advantage of the ‘accessible resources’ and to work hard.

While asserting that ‘luck favours those who labours’ he took the example of the life of Abraham Lincoln and told them to emulate the values from the great leader. There is no shortcut to success, the students were told.

The minister told the students to explore opportunities beyond government jobs, stating that the government of the day cannot afford to give jobs to all and if it does ‘it will go from bad to worse.’ He expressed the need for achieving professionalism in any field and to venture into entrepreneurship. He urged the students to be ‘risk takers.’

Kronu added that the present government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is doing its best for the society for the generation to prosper.

In regard to the developments concerning a political settlement, the minister said, “While hoping for a better solution, you have continue to do what you are suppose to do.” He asserted that the ongoing negotiations must not be an issue for the students as they pursue excellence in their life.

The minister also exhorted the students not to compromise their cultural identities but to maintain their forefathers’ values as the ‘Chakhesang are known for their hardworking nature.’

Delivering the presidential address of the event, Chakhesang Students Union’s president, Lavoto Chizo, asserted that the quality of life of the people in improving socio-economic development is of paramount importance. He added that the present generation cannot remain spectators to the changes that are being experienced.

In this regard, Chizo said quality education is a requisite for empowerment and to uplift the status of the people.

Earlier, the president of the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Mikha Kenye, told the students to uphold the honesty and straight forward nature of their forefathers. The community leader urged the people to maintain unity despite challenges.

On the increase in the number of educated unemployed people in the region, Kenye told the students’ fraternity to initiate and to rethink the concept of communitisation in schools so as to ensure quality education.
