State-level meeting on Covid-19 vaccination held

Dimapur, Jan. 30 (EMN): Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with the Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN) and John Snow India (JSI) held a state-level meeting on Covid vaccination in Kohima on January 29.

The meeting was held with representatives from different churches, student leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, NGOs and development partner UNICEF on the theme, ‘To amplify the Government’s Covid-19 Vaccination’.

A press statement informed that Egumsing Nsarangbe, State Project Manager, John Snow India, appealed to all that it is a ‘social responsibility as an individual and more as a leader to understand the present Covid scenario, the importance of vaccines and to educate people who are misinformed and misled by various false news’.

He said that it is high time for all to understand the situation and play our part as leaders, further he appealed to all the participants to be open and have a fruitful discussion.

Dr. Ritu Thurr, State Immunisation Officer (SIO), Health department spoke on Covid -19 vaccine prioritisation in India, and how the largest vaccine drive was rolled out for different categories in the country, while also presenting on the district and state coverage.

It said that the official spoke on Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) status as per CoWIN, reasons for comparatively low rate of vaccine uptake in Nagaland, and steps taken to increase vaccine uptake in far flung areas in Nagaland districts such as the “Har Ghar Dastak” campaign. He also thanked ISRN, an NGO empanelled by John Snow India (JSI) and many other NGOs who are assisting and supporting the department in amplifying Covid vaccination in the state.

Communication Officer, JSI Rose facilitated the discussion Hour. Invocation prayer was delivered by Pastor Kughavi from Nagaland Christian Revival Church and Kawang Lowang, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer; JSI delivered the vote of thanks.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Martha Dukru, State Coordinator, ISRN. She highlighted the agenda and requested the key stakeholders for a solution-driven discussion.
