Stakeholders meet for domestic air cargo operation

Dimapur, Feb. 26 (EMN): A meeting of stakeholders pertaining to the approval of security vetting and security clearance for domestic cargo operation from the terminal building of Dimapur Airport from the director general of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Ministry of Civil Aviation, government of India, was held at Hotel Saramati on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) Y Kikheto Sema stated that the year 2020-21 is a special year for the state government as soil testing facility laboratory in 12 districts and in 72 blocks were installed.

While pointing out the limited scope for large and medium industries in Nagaland, Sema stated that the Agri and Allied activities have advantage as the stated is blessed with various agro climatic zones. Sema has attributed to land holding system and the traditional way of cultivation which are not economically viable.

As the Kisan rail train services and air cargo facilities would be operational, Sema questioned whether it is possible to continue with the traditional way of cultivation to meet the demand of export to other states.

In order to meet the demand for export of goods, Sema suggested the need to bring the Agri and Allied departments and farmers together. He also urged the central ministry to come to Northeast and planned out the policy which is viable to the people. The APC further urged to focus on a particular demand in order to capture the market outside the state.

In his keynote address, the director of Airports Authority of India (AAI), Dimapur Airport, M Zhimo termed as an opportunity as the government of India has approved clearance for domestic cargo operation from Dimapur Airport.

Zhimo explained that air cargo measures only 0.1 percent or 0.2 percent of the total carrying cargo all over the world but it terms of value it is very high. Zhimo added that India Air cargo proposal is only permitted through a dedicated control terminal and for domestic purpose called ‘Common User Domestic Cargo Terminal’ (CUDCT).

He informed that at present Dimapur Airport has also constructed a CUDCT but unfortunately it does not have all the required equipments due to the pandemic.

Also speaking at the meeting, the commissioner and secretary of Horticulture, Anenla T Sato, stated that Nagaland would join the rest of the world in business through the faculties. Sato stated that success of the agriculture products would depends on various stakeholders as farmers might not be aware of the faculties. Sato further urged the gathering to be more sincere and consistence and put in more effort till they achieve the goal.
