Smart City project: INR 245 crore released for Nagaland till date

The Central government has released a total of INR 245 crore for Kohima Smart City project out of which INR 195.99 crore has been utilised as on July 8, 2022.

The government has also released a total of INR 49 crore for the year 2022-23 for the project.

This was informed by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The government of India launched the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) on June 25, 2015, and 100 Smart cities had been selected through four rounds of competition from January 2016 to June 2018.

As per SCM guidelines, the central government provides financial support to the extent of INR 48,000 crore over five years i.e., on an average INR 100 crore per city per year and equal amount on a matching basis will be contributed by the state government/urban local body (ULB).

According to the report the government of India has released INR 30,751.41 crore for 100 Smart Cities, out of which INR 27,610.34 crore (90%) has been utilised as on July 8, 2022.

As per the Northeast state-wise distribution of funds released by the central government for Smart City, Sikkim received the highest amount of INR 561.50 crore, out which INR 537 crore has been utilised, followed by Tripura with INR 319.50 crore, out of which INR 245 crore has been utilised.

Assam and Nagaland have received INR 245 crore each, out of which INR 196 crore and INR 195.99 crore have been utilised respectively.

The central government have also released equal funds for smart cities projects to Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram of INR 196 crore each out of which INR 149.60 crore, INR 78.19 crore and 58.93 crore have been utilised respectively as of July 8, 2022.

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs also informed that these Smart Cities have tendered out 7,822 projects worth INR 1,90,660 crore, out of which 7,649 projects worth INR 1,80,996 crore work orders have been issued.

It stated that 4,085 projects worth INR 66,912 crore have been completed, and the period of implementation of SCM is till June 2023. All Smart Cities are expected to complete their projects within the stipulated time.
