Shishu Sarothi announces scholarship for persons with disability
Dimapur, July 15 (EMN): Shishu Sarothi (centre for rehabilitation and training for multiple disability and rights-based non-profit organisation based in Guwahati, Assam), in partnership with Indus Towers Ltd., the erstwhile Bharti Infratel Limited, has announced the 2021-22 Indus Towers Scholarship Programme (ITSP) scholarships to be awarded to 120 deserving students with disabilities.
Nagaland State Disability Forum (NSDF), state partner organisation, informed that the program would be available for students from north east India, who wish to pursue or pursuing higher education in academic and professional courses at levels ranging from higher secondary to post graduation and others. The scholarship is also offered for students with disabilities from other states in India studying in colleges/ educational institutions/ universities located in northeast India.
The scholarship programme provides financial support for the scholars to cover educational expenses/ fees paid till the completion of their courses. Additionally, some deserving students would also be provided support for specific requirements of study materials, assistive equipment and devices, conveyance allowance and hostel fees to facilitate and motivate them to complete the course of study.
It informed that a total of 120 students would be selected in 2021-22 and supported till the completion of their course. The organisation has partnered with local organisations across the eight NE states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura for dissemination, application support to candidates and monitoring and mentoring of selected students locally.
ITSP is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Indus Towers Ltd. launched in 2016 with the objective of promoting inclusion in the education and professional mainstream. It mentioned that the scholarship programme has already helped 316 students from across Northeast India to pursue higher education with funding support amounting to more than INR 50 lakh in five years.
Online and offline applications for the 2021-22 session has commenced from July 7 and the last date has been set on August 15. All details about the scholarship could be obtained from the website www.ssscholarship.org.
