Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): The Kohima Ao Union (Kohima Aor Telongjem) held its annual general meeting at Molu Ki, Kohima on April 10 with Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker NLA, as the special Invitee.

An update form DIPR stated that Longkumer, speaking at the event, said that the Ao community as a whole was in need of a socio-economic and political revival in order to be at par with the rest of the world and to ensure that the future remains bright and hopeful for the younger generation.

He mentioned how the Ao community in the past had been the torchbearers and leaders in various fields and had always been at the forefront setting an exemplary example for others to follow, it said.  It said that he called upon the gathering to retrospect on their achievements and also make a careful study of the present scenario and where the community as a whole stands, be it socially, economically or politically, and assess what changes need to be adopted and work together towards uplifting the society.

He also emphasised on the vast untapped human resource available in the form of young, educated and talented citizens coupled with vast hectares of undeveloped ancestral lands and the management of which will be the key to progress and prosperity of the community.

He concluded by saying that as a community, one must go back to their roots and bring about reforms in various sectors from within oneself to ensure that the community moves forward in the right direction and at the right pace.

Earlier, President, Kohima Ao Union, Chiden Yaden delivered the welcome address and with his tenure as president coming to an end, Chubalepzuk Ao was elected as the new president of Kohima Ao Union.
