Separate directorate for dentists under process

Dimapur, October 20: A two-day 14th Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANS) conference and annual general meeting got under at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Dimapur, on October 20. The two-day conference will be attended by dentists from all over Nagaland.
Gracing the inaugural programme as the chief guest, Maongwati Aier, Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, informed that a separate branch for dentists in the directorate level is being considered and is under process. Besides, he stated that medical college in Kohima is expected kick off by the end of this year. Aier added that the Japanese government had asked for 1500 trained nurses from the Manipur government to work in Japan.
It was informed that currently there are only 33 dental doctors (10 specialists, 15 contract basis) in Nagaland’s government sector thus highlighting the urgent need to create more posts. Terming dentistry as a noble profession, Aier encouraged the dentists to work for the people and to keep themselves updated with the latest technology to be at par with the rest of the country. He added that CDE (Continual Dental Education) programmess are held in Nagaland specifically to update the surgeons. Additional Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Savino gave a brief talk on the status of dental surgeons in the State. She suggested that posts need to be created in the Home Department to create jobs for educated skilled dentists.
The trade fair was inaugurated by Dr. H Hotokhu Chishi, Director H&FW, and guest speaker Dr. Udey Vir Gandhi conducted a conference on “Changing scenario of oral rehabilitation.”
