Kohima, Jan. 21 (EMN):
Heads of educational institutions are urged to start introducing innovative practices and programmes in their schools considering that the objective of education management is not to produce academic results but to inspire development of ‘good human beings.’

Do not be complacent but introduce innovative practices and implement proper educational programmes and activities in the schools to improve the quality of education, said Wonthungo Tsopoe, director of School Education, to a group of trainees. The idea is to shape students in such a way that they spread ‘good morals’ in the society.

The official was addressing the introductory session of a three-days training programme in school leadership for headmasters and principals on Tuesday in the Duda conference hall as part of the Samagra Shiksha Nagaland programme.

Tsopoe said the education department is subject to constant evaluation by different agencies ‘as education is the most vital factor in the society.’

In reference to the training programme, he acknowledged that education is dynamic and there are new requirements and challenges that emerge frequently.

“The core objective of school management is not result-oriented approach but to make good human being,” he told the trainees and reminded them about the huge responsibilities the school administrators have for the society. He asked them to constantly evaluate the status of their schools’ performance.

The educators ‘should know about their students, personal problems, family background and in whole, the overall psychology,’ he asserted.

“It is not easy to be a teacher but we should know how to tackle it,” he said in encouragement and emphasised on the need to have more counselling and guidance activities. He asked them to not be confined in their comfort zone but to “indulge ourselves in other activities too.”

“We have to earn respect with our effort and work,” he said, reminding the teachers that the society expects a lot from them to shape students into becoming responsible citizens.

“Let us all try to shape our students in such a way that they spread good moral to our society,” he commented, asking them to build productive atmosphere wherever they are posted.

Further, Tsopoe urged the school heads to ensure protection of government properties such as school buildings and school land from land encroachment. The official has asked them to promptly report such matters to the government for it to take timely action.

Dr. Kevizakie Rio, joint mission director of the Samagra Shiksha, said in his keynote address that the training module was designed for a two-way interaction between the resource and participants and among the participants through engagement in the various aspects of school Best Practices.

The three-day school leadership programme is organized for 50 government school headmasters and principals.
