Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): Kohima branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) on December 20 handed over claim settlement amount of INR 1 lakh under the social security scheme of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) to one Hamed Ali (41), a labourer engaged with GREF, who lost his left leg following hit by a big stone from the hill top while working in Pedi village under Peren district on July 13, 2022.
An update from SBI Kohima branch stated that Ali was registered under the scheme from Neiketou Theyo, SBI Customer Service Point (CSP), Kezieke in Kohima last year. The insurance coverage under the scheme is upto INR 2 lakh with a yearly premium of INR 20 only for eligible age group from 18 to 70 years, which can be registered from any bank.
It informed that under the scheme, claim of INR 2 lakh is payable in case of permanent total disability or death due to accident, while claim of INR1 lakh is payable in case of permanent partial disability due to accident.
Permanent total disability means total and irrevocable loss of both eyes or loss of both hands or both feet or loss of sight of one eye with loss of use of either one hand or foot. Permanent partial disability means total and irrevocable loss of sight of one eye or loss of use of one hand or foot, it explained.
