Dimapur, Aug. 7 (EMN): Department of Horticulture, Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU, under Tribal Sub Plan (Onion) conducted a seed distribution programme for onion beneficiaries at New Socϋnoma and Bade villages on August 6.
Looking at the consumption and production rate of onion in Nagaland, Dr. Major Singh, Director of ICAR- Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Rajgurunagar, Pune, Maharashtra, and Prof. Akali Sema, Principle Investigator, TSP-Onion, felt the need to popularise onion cultivation among tribal farmers of Nagaland.
CO-PIs of TSP-Onion, Nagaland Centre, Dr. Aastik Jha, Dr. Waluniba and Dr. Moakala Changkiri distributed kharif onion seeds and setts (planting material) to the best performing beneficiaries of 2018-2019 to encourage and popularise onion cultivation.
The onion beneficiaries have expressed gratitude for initiating such a programme under TSP-Onion and assured full cooperation for the success of the programme.
