Sankiton SC takes home LSU Martyrs’ trophy

Wokha, April 20 (EMN): Sankiton Sporting Club has defeated Proximos Football Club 2-1 in the final match of the 19th edition of the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) Martyrs’ Trophy. The match was played at the public ground of Wokha on Fri. April 20.
The winners walked away with Rs.45, 000 along with the trophy while the runner-up Proximos FC went home richer by Rs.25, 000 and a trophy.
Earlier, the president of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Kesosul Christopher Ltu attended the closing ceremony as a special guest. In his address, Ltu paid homage to the departed duo the late Thungkhomo Ezung and Chumdamo Tungoe in whose honour and memory the trophy was organised.
The president of the apex Naga students’ body expressed enthusiasm at the growing number of talents in Nagaland especially in the field football. However, he lamented and expressed concern at the use of intoxicants and issue of substance abuse among talented Naga youths, which he observed was affecting many talents. He has urged the players to shun substance abuse while encouraging them to take up sports professionally and not only as a hobby.
Also, the NSF chief urged the players and students to pursue discipline in their lives to excel not only in sports but in life as well.
As a gesture of encouragement to the budding talents, Ltu announced that the NSF would sponsor the winning team’s jerseys and other sport kits for participation in the NSF trophy. The special guest also sponsored the individual prizes of the tournament.
