Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): South Korean Tech giant Samsung confirmed on Monday that it has suffered a security breach after hackers obtained and leaked 190GB of sensitive data online.

South American hacking group Lapsus$ has claimed responsibility over the attack, however, Samsung has yet to reveal the entities behind the security breach. This is the same group that infiltrated chip giant NVIDIA and stole more than 1TB of sensitive data including schematics and source code.

In a post on its Telegram channel, Lapsus$ claims to have stolen confidential data that includes bootloader source code of Samsung’s Galaxy devices. They then shared a 190GB torrent file that contained the alleged source code.

In a statement shared with Bloomberg, Samsung confirmed that there was a “security breach” related to internal company data but no personal information of its customers and employees was stolen.

“According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code relating to the operation of Galaxy devices, but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees,” Samsung said. “Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers. We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without disruption.”

It is not known whether Lapsus$ has made any ransom demands to Samsung, however, considering that they demanded a ransom paid in cryptocurrency to Nvidia, it would not be surprising if it did.
