Sample collection intensified in Manipur; police detains 518 persons and seize 536 vehicles

Imphal, May 21 (EMN): Manipur state Health department has intensified sample collection in 17 centres and testing capacity has been increased from earlier 200 samples to 900 daily. It will be further increased to 1500 per day, according to a press note.

Informing that the state cabinet had reviewed the status of incoming stranded people, the reported positive cases and status of quarantine centres, a press note from state chief secretary’s office in Imphal on Wednesday night said that so far about 2544 samples were tested and 25 cases detected positive.

On Wednesday, 16 new cases are tested positive and out of this 15 are from Churachandpur centres and one from Imphal east district.

The state cabinet also decided to segregate these incoming people from the existing inmates in quarantine centres and not to mix up them to control the spread of Covid-19.

Stating that the government is following strict procedure and more than the prescribed norms to ensure safety of the people, the press note said so far all the cases are confined to the quarantine centres and there is no case detected from general public in the society.

After deliberation, the cabinet has also decided to bring stranded people in phases and in the first phase the trains arranged till May 25 will be allowed, it said. After completion of testing of all the people stationed in quarantine centres, the second phase of trains will be planned, the note said.

As of May 21, seven trains have arrived at Jiribam railway station, 220 km west of Imphal from Chennai, Punjab, Bangalore, Vadodara, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

The seventh special train carrying around 430 stranded people of the state, arrived at the Jiribam from Hyderabad on Thursday, sources said.

Soon after arrival the returnees were transported to their respective districts state transport department buses after necessary medical procedures.

213 tested Covid-19 negative

Till 6:30 pm on Thursday, 213 individuals were tested VRDLs of RIMS (103) and JNIMS (110) and all were found Covid-19 negative, according to a press release issued by Covid-19 common control room. The approved guideline of home quarantine is a scientific and effective means of prevention and is practiced worldwide.

Police detained 518 persons, seize 536 vehicles

Manipur Police has detained 518 persons and seized 536 vehicles for violating lockdown norms in the state, a senior officer said.

They were fined a sum of INR 68,100 by the concerned duty Magistrates, a press note issued by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun said on Thursday. The Additional DGP said police department will continue to deal with those who violate the lockdown under the National Disaster Management Act 2005 with strong legal action.
