Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has announced to initiate a crowd funding programme to facilitate completion of the much needed Foothill road connecting Khelma in Peren district to Tizit in Mon district.

RPP made this announcement during a press conference held at Hotel Ura in Kohima on Thursday after an interactive session with intellectuals and well-wishers of Kohima, stated an update from RPP.

RPP president, Joel Naga, informed that leaders and well-wishers have stressed on the need to complete the foothill road project which would serve as a major lifeline for the people of Nagaland.

RPP was of the view that if a similar project in Manipur initiated by Armstrong Pame could be completed in 2012 with INR 40 lakh only, the party found it strange as to why the project could not be completed despite the state government pumping in INR 70 crore, according to newspaper reports.

Considering the fact that the foothill road project was first conceptualised in 1974 and subsequently taken up in 2013 by the NFHRCC, the RPP leaders appealed to all the people of Nagaland to embrace the project as their very own by emulating the example set by ABAM in 2020 when it  donated INR 36 lakhs. RPP leaders were determined to make the project a Naga success story.

“The Naga MLAs are not serious regarding the project. If they are serious, the project could have been completed by now. If all the 60 MLAs had contributed even 10% of their yearly LADF towards the project, INR 80- 90 crore could have been easily collected in the last 8 to 9 years or so,” it claimed.

RPP expressed apprehension that Naga people would continue to suffer from economic blockades and harassment in the hands of Assam if the foothill road project is abandoned.

Meanwhile, RPP appreciated the NFHRCC for consistently keeping the issue alive for the last nine years and further appealed to the committee not to lose hope or be disheartened. The RPP was also informed to release the  details of the crowd funding project in a few weeks time.
