RPF rescues 708 children

Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway successfully rescued as many as 708 minor boys and girls from railway stations during the period from January to December 2018 before they could be lured by anti-social elements.

A NF Railways press release stated that RPF was able to arrest 20 human traffickers who were transporting minor boys/ girls in trains during the period. It added that 75 persons were also rescued during the period bringing the total number of such rescued person to 783.

Out of the total 783 rescued persons, 428 were male below 18 years, 280 female below 18 years, while 30 male above 18 years and 45 female above 18 years.

It stated that 410 of the rescued persons were handed over to different NGOs while 233 minors are handed over to their respective parents. Rests were handed over to concerned GRP/ police for necessary action as per law.

In the current year upto March, it stated that as many as 165 persons were rescued by RPF from railway premises including 148 minors and four human traffickers were arrested.

During the period from April 1 to 7, RPF rescued as many as 14 minor boys and girls from different stations/ trains and handed over them to their respective parents/ NGOs.

It mentioned that RPF has been successfully rescuing run away children from the clutch of traffickers regularly along with arrest of traffickers, adding rescued children were handed over to their parents or various NGOs.

It also stated that various squads of RPF are regularly conducting checks at railway premises to prevent such cases. It further added that arrested traffickers were handed over to respective GRP/ police for appropriate action under law.
