Virie 2

Virie is a dynamic musician who has come a long way pursuing her passion and winning hearts. She is also a school teacher chasing her dreams.

Read on to know more about her….

Eastern Mirror: Could you share about your musical journey so far?

Virie: I started singing when I was little during Sunday school days, but for so many years I did not keep in touch with music. Then later, it all happened when I was doing my Masters I gained my interest back to music.

I was always scared of the outside stage but it was 2014 that I started practicing a lot and gave much effort. I finally decided to upload a cover song on YouTube with so much hesitation. After my first cover song was released, I was surprised to see the amount of support I got from viewers and listeners. It motivated me to make more music and I am happy and thankful for everyone’s immense support. I might not have reached a great peak but I have come this far sharing my story through my songs to places, and that’s what matters for me.

Eastern Mirror:  Which musical genre are you most comfortable with?

Viroe: I am much into Indie, Indie rock and dream pop.

Eastern Mirror: Who or what has been the most important influence in your music career?

Virie: The songs that I wrote so far were influenced and inspired by everything that’s around me; my family, God, friends, loved ones, nature, I can keep on going naming them, it’s  all about every little thing that’s around me.

Eastern Mirror: Apart from singing, what else interests you?

Virie:  I love teaching and I’ve been teaching for nine years now.

Eastern Mirror: How do you balance between teaching and music?

Virie: I was so passionate about teaching since when I was little and the same goes with music.  I love my job and I prioritise it, and as for music, after my work or maybe on a free weekend I make use of my time making music. But yes of course, I don’t forget to have personal time and we-time with family and friends as well. It’s how you utilise your time and make it worthwhile.

Eastern Mirror: Tell us about your favourite and least favourite thing as a musician.

Virie: To be able to share your story through your music and being able to be an inspiration, that’s real happiness! My least favourite is not being able to be consistent in making music especially in the long run.

Eastern Mirror: As a musician, what is your definition of success?

Virie:  Feeling in a concert, that the audience is actively listening to what you are playing and when you are able to inspire through your music.

Eastern Mirror: What is the one project that you are most proud of as a singer?

Virie: I’ve always had one particular dream as a singer and I’m yet to fulfil it. It might take time but I’m getting there.

Eastern Mirror: How have you evolved as a person and artiste since your debut in music?

Virie:  I’ve learned so much, especially in becoming a better version of myself.

Eastern Mirror: As an artiste who has been in the limelight for many years, what is your take on the present music scenario in the state?

Virie: There are lot of artistes who are setting the music scene to greater heights here in our state, likewise with such influence for the past few years till now we see a lot upcoming artistes showcasing the best out of them and for that TaFMA Nagaland is really helping out to scout more talents and to provide them with bigger opportunities.

That being said, I must say the present music scenario is very much progressing compared to some years back where enough opportunities were not given to musicians.

Eastern Mirror: Do you feel pressured to live up to the expectation of your fans that look up to you?

Virie: Like I said earlier, music has also helped me become a better version of myself and I hope not to disappoint. I think I’m not really pressured but yes, I’m human and I am trying to be better with each new day.

Eastern Mirror: Any project in the pipeline?

Virie:  YES! Maybe by the end of this year it will be released. I had so much fun doing this project because it includes my friends with whom I’ve been making music for a long time now. It’s a bit different from the rest of the songs that I’ve already released and I cannot wait to share it! Fingers crossed.
