Dimapur, Dec. 4 (EMN): Residents of Marwari Patti and West Yard Kalibari localities have drawn the attention of the concerned authority over increasing incidents of burglary, which has been taking place for more than six month.

An update from NPCC in-charge of minority department, Rajesh Kumar Sethi, claimed that the problem has aggravated since last week and made the residents feel insecure even in their homes. Sethi stated that many of the residents’ AC wires and electrical wires were stolen from outside their houses.

He stated that many residents were scared and unnecessary blamed their servants and chowkidars for loss of those items. He added that it has become a serious hindrance to the smooth functioning of their day to day life.

Sethi stated that the residents have complained with the local police station and requested the authority for patrolling by at least two policemen during the day and night.

“Many theft crimes are drug-related. The reason for this is because many people who have become addicted to street drugs cannot afford them through regular means. As a result, they may attempt to commit theft in order to support their drug habit,” Sethi said.

He added that some street drug dealers accept stolen items as payment for illicit drugs. He said a person purchasing the drugs might try to sell off the items and use the money to buy the drugs.

He, therefore, urged the authority to seriously look into the issue and deploy police personnel to stop such activities and nab the culprits.
