Rengma community celebrates Ngada mini-Hornbill

Kohima, Nov. 28 (EMN): The two-day Ngada Mini-hornbill festival of the Rengma Naga tribe concluded on November 28 at the RSA ground at Tseminyu old town, Kohima district.

The president of the Angami Public Organisation, Kepelhusie Terhuja, was the guest of the event. He said the population of the Rengma people is small but the size of their land is considerable. He urged the people to continue maintaining good relations with their neighbouring tribes. He said that the culture of violence will never solve any problem.

R Khing, the advisor for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and Women Resources Development, narrated about how the forefathers of the Rengma community conducted festivals including rites starting from jungle cutting to farming cultivation.

The Ngada festival is held toward the end of the year after harvest, Khing said. He reminded the Rengma community to understand the meaning of the event even though they have become Christians, the updates stated.

In the festival there were folk music and dances from Phensuny and Tseminyu villages, Tsogin Cultural Troupe, Kithagha group, and Kandi Group Tseminyu New Town.

Various competitions were also held during the festival celebrations.

Ngada Best Morung contest: Kasha Daho (10, 000)

Ngada best costume contest: INR 2,000 each to Hitilo Jemu and Dili Apon.

A group called the Vanguard FC conducted the Ngada Indigenous Games Competition 2019 during the Ngada mini-Hornbill Hornbill Festival. The winners of the event were awarded cash prizes and certificates by the Ngada 2019 organising committee.
