Re-polling peaceful in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 22

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith more than 87.41 polling percentage, the re-polling of 16th Lok Sabha Election at 31/1- Moijing(A) polling station under Thoubal Assembly Constituency in Manipur’s Thoubal district was conducted under tight security arrangement today.
The voters turn out as high as 70 percent at around 1pm, reports said. However there was no report of any unwanted incident during the course of the re-polling hour.The three main contestants in the ongoing Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat including congress candidate and sitting MP Dr T Meinya, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dr RK Ranjan and CPI candidate Dr M Nara Singh separately visited the polling site.
The re-polling at the said polling station was recommended after the election officials’ detected excess polling record of 773 votes against the existing 771 in the electoral list of Moijing (A) polling station which lies under the home district of Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
It may be mentioned that the Presiding Officer of the said polling station was also suspended following an order by District Election Officer T Ranjit, another sources added.
