The Rural Agricultural Work Experience programme for ICAR agriculture students began at KVK Dimapur to provide practical field exposure.

DIMAPUR — The Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme for 32 B.Sc. (Agriculture) students from the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Assam Campus, was inaugurated at the conference hall of ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, on Wednesday.
The programme, a part of the Institutional Attachment Module, is jointly organised by ICAR-KVK Dimapur, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, and the ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), according to a press release.
During the inaugural session, Dr. Phool Kumari, senior scientist-cum-head, KVK Dimapur, welcomed the students. Introductory remarks and a briefing of the programme were delivered by Dr. Homeswar Kalita, head of the regional centre, ICAR Nagaland Centre.
The RAWE programme is designed to provide agriculture students with practical exposure to real-life rural and farming conditions. It bridges classroom learning with field-level agricultural practices, enabling students to develop problem-solving skills and understand farmers’ socio-economic and technical challenges.

Following the inauguration, a “Training on package of practices of rabi crops” and seed distribution under front line demonstration (FLD) on “Participatory seed production of linseed” were held on the same day at Sunito village, Niuland.
The programme began with a lecture on the package of practices of linseed delivered by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, chief technical officer (CTO), Plant Breeding, KVK Dimapur, and Yashraj Kumawat, IARI Assam student.
Kumawat elaborated on the scientific methods of linseed cultivation, including details on soil requirements, seed treatment, sowing techniques, nutrient and pest management, and harvesting practices. He highlighted the importance of adopting improved agricultural practices and modern technologies to increase crop yield and profitability.
As part of the FLD under participatory seed production, 125 kilograms of quality linseed seed were distributed among the Sunito farmers. The initiative was led by Dr. Bendangla Imsong and Dr. Moanaro, programme assistant, KVK Dimapur.
