Rangdajied United FC are once again ready to resume their I-League journey when they take on Churchill Brothers SC in their round 15 encounter at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Tuesday.
Both Rangdajied and Churchill’s journey so far in the I-League have not been so pleasing with both of them struggling to climb up from the relegation zone. Though the Shillong side go in with little change in their squad, Churchill however has undergone a massive makeover and as a result, won the Federation Cup, unbeaten.
“We have to rise up the standings now. After the Federation Cup triumph, the responsibility is more now. I am sure this will be the perfect kind of inspiration for the boys to turn it around in the I-League,” said the Churchill Brothers coach Mariano Dias in a pre match press conference.
Rangdajied meanwhile cannot go for anything less than a win from here on as further slip ups might not augur well for the newbies. And coach Santosh Kashyap understands this very well as he explained, “There is no other alternative but to win. This is a difficult league but it’s also a very exciting challenge. There is little that separates most of the teams.”
However, the good news for Rangdajied is that, the team is hungry and Kashyap for the first time in the I-League will get all his four foreigners fully fit. Showing confidence to rise from the danger zone, Kashyap said, “We are a different side now. The team that started the I-League is different to what you will see in the second phase. This is a much better team.”
With back-to-back matches lined up Goa against Churchill and Dempo, Rangdajied will have their task cut out. But the former ONGC coach showed no sign of worry and fully trust his boys to tackle the Goan challenges.
“It’s a huge motivation to be playing against such teams. We believe we have the team that can better both Churchill and Dempo, but we will take one match at a time. Lets’ tackle Churchill first,” he concluded.
