Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): The All Nagaland PWD Field Workers’ Association (ALPWDFWA) of Aboi division staged a protest at the SDO PWD (R&B) office in Aboi over nonpayment of salary for 22 months despite the workers performing their duties.

It said the office of SDO PWD (R&B) Aboi division will remain closed until the department releases their salaries.

In a press release, the association stated that the concerned department should review and pay the salary of the work charge employees, while questioning the state government how the fourth grade employees could survive without getting their salaries, the only source of their income.

The association also alleged that most of the retired work charge employees weren’t “given the rights of scale pay or be regularised even during the time of retirement though they had served the department with utmost sincerity”. It added that it had “won a Court case for non regularisation of service/work charge employees thereunder but the process is still on hold at the department level”.

Maintaining that it is the work charge labourers who maintain the roads, the association urged the state government to pay their pending salary as well as consider regularisation of service of the present employees at least before 15 years of retirement.
