Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): After a gap of over five years, quality potato seeds under the SMSP were distributed free of cost to farmers and SHGs at the office of SDAO, Pughoboto, on February 2.
During the seed distribution programme, SDAO Pughoboto, Myanthung Patton encouraged the beneficiaries to cultivate them in suitable areas for a sustainable economy. Apprising the farmers that the seeds are chemically treated and harmful for health, he warned them against consuming the seeds.
He also impressed upon the farmers to cultivate the seeds for commercial purpose in addition to their domestic consumption. The seeds cost about INR 70 per kg in the open market and could reach up to INR 4000 per bag if transportation charges are included, he informed. He further sought the cooperation of the farmers for successful implementation of the various schemes.
