Mokokchung, Feb. 18 (EMN):
Cautioning that herd immunity against Covid-19 would prove futile unless 70% or more of the population are vaccinated, medical experts have advised the public not to fall prey to rumours on the efficacy of the vaccine that are flooding social media.

Experts stated this during a sensitisation programme on Covid-19 vaccination drive held in the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s office (CMO), Mokokchung, on Thursday. The sensitisation programme was attended by representatives from the churches, Watsu Mungdang, MTLT, All Wards’ Union and media personnel.

Speaking at the programme, CMO’s spokesperson Dr. Ayangla informed that more than 1000 frontline workers have received the jabs. She added that the district aims to achieve 100 percent vaccination for the frontline
workers.

Also speaking on the occasion, SDO (Civil), Mokochung, Dharam Raj informed that the district would soon initiate the third phase of the Covid-19 inoculation drive for persons above 50 years of age and persons with co-morbidities. He has sought support and cooperation of the church, civil Societies, media personnel and stakeholders in the same manner as they had responded during the initial pandemic lockdown.

“We believe that the best platform to educate the people about the vaccine is through proactive involvement of the church, civil Societies, press and stakeholders,” he asserted.

“People have doubts and questions about the Covid-19 vaccine therefore before we start the third phase in the district, we need the cooperation and support from the church to provide your platform to the medical experts to clear their doubts,” Raj appealed to the churches.

To dispel fear among the public, Dr. Yanger asserted that there has been no reports of adverse reactions after taking the vaccine jab in India till now. Stating that the vaccine has been proven safe, he has sought change of attitude and not believe on false rumours.

He urged the public to avail the vaccine and not worry about its long term side effect saying that the Covid vaccine has been manufactured by applying the same technology like any other vaccines.
