Political parties mourn Gogoi’s demise

Dimapur, Nov. 24 (EMN): The deputy chief minister and BLP leader Y Patton has mourned the demise of Assam’s longest serving chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who passed away at GMC Guwahati on November 23.

Patton has described Gogoi as a tall political leader from Northeast region who was respected for his integrity and wisdom. He stated that Gogoi took over the helm of affairs when Assam was at the peak of insurgency and brought it to path of visible peace and development through a matured diplomatic approach.

Patton further lamented that in his demise, the nation has lost a seasoned political leader whose service would be greatly missed. He, on behalf of the BJP legislators of Nagaland, conveyed condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

In a related statement, the minority wing of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has mourned demise of Tarun Gogoi.

Describing Gogoi as a true Congress leader, NPCC minority wing chairman Rajesh Kumar Sethi stated that he was admired and respected for his extraordinary vision, wisdom, courage and ability. NPCC minority further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

In yet another statement, National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland state has mourned the demise of Tarun Gogoi and stated that in his death, the entire country along with the people of Assam have lost a staunch supporter of human rights and dignity.

NPP Nagaland president Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema stated that as a people’s leader, Gogoi tried his best to uplift the lot of people belonging to all religious groups, communities and tribes. He added that Gogoi, during his tenure as the chief minister of Assam, had not only brought about equitable and inclusive development in Assam but also laid emphasis on bringing the North eastern region on the map of progress and development.

Sema further stated that Gogoi was greatly revered by his contemporaries as well as the young and upcoming leaders of all parties alike for his deep sense of dedication, wisdom, political acumen and sense of humour.

He, on behalf of the party, conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty God to grant them strength and courage to bear with the loss.
