Phoenix United win 2nd Gospel Football Tournament
Dimapur, Oct. 24 (EMN): Defending champions Phoenix United emerged as the winner of the 2nd Gospel Football Tournament of Phek District 2022 held from October 15 to the 24th at local ground, Chozuba town.
The event was flagged off on 15th October 2022 under the banner of the Youth department of the Chozuba Town Baptist Church (CYE, CTBC). The theme of the year’s event is “Together in Christ”.
The first edition of the tournament was organised in 2019 and the following in 2022 with the sole aim to bring together the youth from different churches, villages and towns to glorify God and thus, to seek God through sports, an update stated.
Delivering the speech as the guest speaker during the inaugural function, Rev. Muluvoyi Nienu, Youth Secretary, the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) asserted that sports is a universal language that every person can understand.
“It is a means through which humans create friendships, networking and relationships,” it read.
The valedictory service was attended by Deo Huprem, Youth Director, Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima. In his speech, he enlightened the players through a reference from the book of Timothy and encouraged the players to fight the good fight guided by the spiritual values of honesty, faithfulness and truthfulness. He also asserted that the values of sportsmanship are displayed through the conducts and behaviours in the playground.
Altogether, 18 teams representing clubs, churches and villages participated in the tournament.
