Phesama and Elite Sisters’ Club retain Kohima District Volleyball Trophy

Kohima, Nov. 24 (EMN): Defending champions Phesama Youth Organisation and Elite Sisters’ Club retained their titles in the men and women category during the final matches of the Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament (Men & Women) held at the Kohima local ground on Sat. Nov. 24.

The event was organised by the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) under the theme “Transcending through sports.” Altogether 21 teams, including five women teams and 16 men teams participated in the tournament.

Phesama team defeated two times champions Kiruphema Youth Organisation in the men’s category. In the final match, they comfortably defeated Kirpuphema Youth Organisation in straight three sets by 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18.

Phesama YO received INR 35,000 with trophy and citations while Kiruphema received INR 25,000. In the individual awards: Neithongulie Koutsu of Phesama was adjudged the best spiker and Kedicho Pucho of Zenith Club, Kezo Town as best setter. The semi-finalist’s i.e Kenuozou Youth Organisation, Neichazou Volleyball Club, Mima received INR 5000 each.

While in women’s category, defending champs Elite Sisters Club Sepfuzou Colony Kohima overcame last year’s runners-up Tiema Khe Kidima in the final match. In the final, Elite defeated the Kidima team in direct three sets of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-13.

Elite received INR 25,000 with trophy and citations while Tiema-Khe Kidima bagged INR 15,000 with citation. Jevikali Achumi of Elite Club was adjudged the best spiker and Kezevile Yongo of Tiema-Khe Kidima as best setter. Col. Debraj Bhattacharya, commandant 3rd Assam Rifles attended the closing ceremony as the special guest and also gave away the awards to the winning teams.
