Health workers immunise children as part of the Intensified Mission Indradhanush in Phek district.

Dimapur, Dec. 5 (EMN): Setting a target to achieve 90% immunisation coverage, Phek district began the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 2.0 from December 2. The mission aimed at immunising children who are below two years of age, and pregnant women, against ten vaccine-preventable diseases.
Focusing on the ‘drop-outs’, and ‘resistant families’ and hard-to-reach areas, Phek started its mission on selected 19 sites and will be carrying out work till March 2020, an update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) stated on Thursday.

The present status of Phek immunisation coverage was 71.6%. It aimed to achieve at least 90% through Intensified Mission Indradhanush targeting 89 children and 21 pregnant women in the first round through the efforts of dedicated health workers to reach the hard-to-reach areas and provide services to eligible children to save them from vaccine-preventable diseases.

The mission also aimed at immunising all children below two years and pregnant women who were left uncovered under the government’s routine immunisation programme.
