PHED Mon observes ‘Global Hand Washing Day’ in Phomching
Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, Mon division of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), observed the ‘Global Hand Washing Day’ at Government High School, Phomching, on October 15 on the theme “Our future is at hand – Let’s move forward together.”
An update from PHED Mon division stated that October 15 is a global advocacy day dedicated to increase awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap and water as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. The objective was to spread awareness on hand hygiene at grassroots to teachers, students, members of Paani Samiti and village council.
It stated that Chuba Longchar, sanitation and hygiene consultant of DWSM, Mon, highlighted the history and origin of ‘Global Hand Washing Day,’ its significance and the importance of hand washing in preventing Covid-19, while Pangken, chemist of Mon division, demonstrated various steps of hand washing to the congregation.
It added that school-level painting competition and placard campaign on hand hygiene were also carried out to ensure active participation of the students and prizes were given accordingly.
Altogether, 250 participants comprising of teachers, students, Watsan committee members, village education committee and village council members attended the programme. It added that soaps and hand sanitizers were distributed to all the participants.
