Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland Y Patton undertook Gandhi Sankalp Yatra on November 29 in commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme which started on October 2 will culminate in January next year.

Patton took part in ‘Fit India movement’ rally, walking from Saron colony in Wokha town to Niroyo village with supporters and party workers as part of the programme, informed an update issued by the media cell of the deputy CM. He also interacted with the villagers before inaugurating the newly constructed Panchayat hall during his visit.

Speaking on the occasion, he thanked and acknowledged the people of Niro Range, Niroyo villagers in particular for reposing their faith in his leadership. He also told the gathering that ‘the long-awaited black topping of road from Wokha town to N Longidang is in the pipeline and works will start by January 2020’.

Since the construction of this road will be a dream come true project and will be an achievement of his commitment for the people, he urged the people of the Range in particular to extend full cooperation to the contractor till the construction of the road is successfully completed, read the press release.

“There should not be any landowner issue which could hamper the progress of the works. The Range people should stick to the assurance that they’ve given in their No Objection Certificates for construction of the road as this will benefit the people of the area at large,” the deputy CM was quoted as saying.

Coinciding with the Sankalp Yatra programme, Patton also distributed rice to under-privileged people, widows and widowers, destitute and senior citizens covering twenty villages and about 1000 beneficiaries.
